As we mentioned in previous articles during the last stage of the menstrual cycle normally a layer of endometriosis lining in the inside of the uterus is expelled, known as menstruation blood but instead some of the endometriosis tissues growimg somewhere in the body causing endometriosis. Endometriosis also reacts to hormonal signals of the monthly menstrual cycle by building up tissue, breaking it, and eliminating it through the menstrual period. Sometime, during menstrual cramps, women may be given prostaglandins inhibitors helping to relief the pains. In this article, we will discuss what is prostaglandins inhibitors ?

I. Prostaglandins inhibitors
Prostaglandins family is one of the subgroup of icosanoid extended family. It contains prostacyclins, thromboxanes and individual prostaglandins. Prostaglandins influence the menstrual cycle in women. Any imbalance of prostaglandin will cause heavy period as well as menstrual cramps. Prostaglandins inhibitors are drugs that suppress the production of prostaglandins and thromboxanes due to its irreversible inactivation of the cyclooxygenase (COX) enzyme that causes heavy period and menstrual cramps from uterine muscle spasm.. Prostaglandins inhibitors do not help to re balance the imbalance of prostaglandins, but only helps to control the symptoms of menstrual pain.

II. Side effects
It is advised that prostaglandins inhibitors drugs should be taken with food to prevent any problem with the gastro-intestine system. Since prostaglandins inhibitors are nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, they have below side effects if overdose.
1) Nausea
2) Vomiting
3) Stomach pain
4) Micro-bleeding and ulcers
